Every kilobyte costs load time, especially on mobile. Here's the actual gzipped size each script adds.
Matomo's script (matomo.js) is ~22 KB gzipped and loaded on every page. Pixli's core is ~5 KB with additional modules lazy-loaded only when enabled.
Matomo can be configured for privacy. Pixli is private by default — no configuration needed.

Matomo covers analytics well. For heatmaps, recordings, and A/B tests, it offers paid plugins — or you need separate tools.

These features either don't exist in Matomo or require expensive paid plugins.
Five sub-scores (bot, engagement, geo, fingerprint, behavior) with configurable weights. Matomo has basic bot detection but nothing like TQS.
Revenue, cost, profit, and ROI by source. S2S postback processing and CSV cost import. Matomo's ecommerce tracking is much more basic.
Every click with sub_id, click_id, and full journey tracking. Auto-generate blacklists. Not available in Matomo at all.
Rage clicks, dead clicks, and JS error capture in real time. Matomo doesn't track user frustration signals.
Included in every plan — no paid plugin needed. Chi-squared statistical significance and automatic winner detection.
Pay with cryptocurrency for full anonymity. No credit card needed — true privacy from billing to analytics.
No migration tool needed. Just swap the script.
Paste one line of code into your site's <head>. Works with any framework or CMS.
Delete the matomo.js script tag. No more self-hosted server to maintain and update.
Traffic analytics, heatmaps, and recordings start collecting right away. No setup wizard.
Not currently. Pixli is a hosted platform. If self-hosting and open source are hard requirements, Matomo is the better choice. Pixli trades that for zero maintenance and a deeper feature set included in every plan.
Matomo On-Premise is free to self-host, but you pay for server infrastructure, maintenance, and optional plugins (heatmaps, A/B testing, funnels are $229/year each). Matomo Cloud starts at $23/mo. Pixli has a free hosted plan.
Matomo Cloud starts at $23/mo for 50K hits. Pixli's free plan covers small-to-medium sites. Both offer similar traffic analytics; Pixli includes heatmaps, recordings, TQS, and A/B testing without paid add-ons.
Pixli uses a client-side script with server-side session resolution. For server-side event tracking, you can use the Pixli API directly.
On EU-based infrastructure. With Matomo self-hosted, you choose the location. With Pixli, data stays on our EU infrastructure and is never shared with third parties.
Pixli doesn't include a tag manager. If you need to manage multiple third-party scripts, you'd use a separate tag manager. Pixli's advantage is that it replaces multiple scripts with one.
